Why watch this?
Right now, there’s opportunity for indie creators to be a part of a transforming US comics market in a big way. There’s also a real crisis in which the US comics market is at risk of becoming an import market for comics. Manga and manga-style webcomics have dominated the market, mainstream companies are collapsing, and indie creators face a monumental task of creating a thriving US comics industry.
The market could go either way, and I believe 2023 is going to be the turning-point year. We’re going to see changes in creator strategies. We’re going to see changes what readers debate about. I’m also going out on a limb and suggesting the ~ 2020-2022 practice of “hate reviewing” will be going out of style this year. All while the industry undergoes a historic transformation.
This is what we’ll be talking about in a fast and energized stream, and I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
